Lake Buchanan LCRA Parks

Above: Entrance to Canyon of the Eagles

Black Rock Park, Lake Buchanan
Recommended for: anglers, boaters, birders

This park offers something for everyone. The northeast side of the lake offers one of the area's best birding; the park has also been a longtime favorite with anglers. If you'd like to extend your stay at Black Rock, the park has numerous sites. Campsites can fill up on busy weekends, and they are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Location: Located in Llano County, northwest of Burnet. From Burnet, travel west on TX 29 and turn right on TX 261. Drive about four miles to the park.

Canyon of the Eagles Nature Park

Cedar Point Recreation Area, Lake Buchanan
Recommended for: boaters, hikers

This park is little changed from its natural state, with just some access roads and only minimal facilities such as composting toilets. Travelers will not find running water or picnic tables. The park is a favorite with birders in search of American bald eagles during the winter months as well as blue herons, white pelicans, osprey, and double-crested cormorants. The park includes a boat ramp but it should be used with caution when the lake is low.

Location: 25 miles northeast of Llano near the community of Tow. From Llano to the east, take FM 2241 and turn north at Bluffton. Travel approximately 4 miles and turn right on FM 3014, then go 3/10 of a mile to the main site entrance. From Buchanan Dam, to the south, take Highway 261 to Bluffton and follow the same directions.
