Kerrville Folk Festival Where: 9 miles south of Kerrville on Texas
Hwy. 16, Kerrville This festival is not only one of the largest in the San Antonio area, it is one of the largest in the Lone Star State. From late May through mid-June, mark your calendar for the annual Kerrville Folk Festival. The annual event features over 100 songwriters and their bands from Texas as well as other states; international performers appear as well. The festival includes 11 six-hour evening concerts, seven two-hour sundown concerts, 80 arts and crafts booths, and over 30 daytime events. One of Texas' best loved music gatherings, this extravaganza of song is held nine miles south of town at the Quiet Valley Ranch. In previous years, headliners have included Tish Hinojosa, Peter Yarrow, Peter Rowan, David Wilcox, actor Ronny Cox, Guy Clark, Butch Hancock, Riders in the Sky, Jimmy LaFave, Sara Hickman, and Peter Yarrow, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and more. New songwriters are featured at the New Folk Concerts held early in the festival. Earlier winners of this prestigious contest include Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, James McMurtry, and Tish Hinojosa. The concert is a casual event, and guests are invited to bring lawn chairs. Ice chests, bottles, cans, or glass containers are not permitted on fair grounds, however. If you want to extend your day trip for a weekend of good music, consider camping at the ranch. Over 20 acres, complete with picnic tables, restrooms, solar-heated showers, and a country store, are available for camping. Official Website: www.kerrville-music.com Back to Kerrville
