Killeen, Texas Travel Guide

Region: Prairies & Lakes

This community is home to Fort Hood, the largest military base in the free world. The town is a good destination for military buffs because of its military museums, open to the public.

Attractions

Fort Hood. Fort Hood is the largest military base in the free world. Within the complex are two museums (visitors must stop at gate at U.S. 190 west of Killeen before entering):

1st Cavalry Division Museum. This museum has displays on the history of the base's first cavalry.

4th Infantry Divison Museum. Featuring many vehicles, this museum offers exhibits on the history of the base's 4th Infantry Divison.

For all visits to Fort Hood, stop at the Main Gate on US 190 west of Killeen.

Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater. This new facility is located on the campus of Central Texas College. Explore the galaxy with sky shows, IMAX films, and laser shows. Located on US 190.

Festivals & Special Events

November, December. Nature In Lights, Killeen. Held at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area, this drive-through lighting event features five and a half miles of holiday lighting displays as well as a Santa’s Village.
