Alice, Texas

also see Kingsville

Named for the daughter of the founder of King Ranch (a legendary 1.2-million-acre ranch built by a wildly successful Irish immigrant and former Texas Ranger named Richard King), this South Texas community was once the world's largest cattle shipping point.

Today the city is also active in the petroleum business and is a favorite destination for hunters searching for javelina, white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and dove.

Alice's southern location allows for tall palm trees to grow alongside deciduous trees.

Attractions:

Lake Corpus Christi State Park. This 14,000-acre lake offers campsites, showers, and screened shelters. Activities include fishing, swimming, and boating. To reach the park, take Rt. 359 about 30 miles to Park Road 25.

Exhibits trace human habitation from Native American settlements through the present day. You'll also find farm, ranch, railroad and oil artifacts on display.
