The Tack Room Bar & Grill. This restaurant features steak and seafood, all accompanied by nightly entertainment. The building that housed Laredo's first telephone exchange now features romantic candlelight dining as well as an exhibition kitchen and grill. Location: 1000 Zaragoza Street at La Posada Hotel.

El Metate Restaurant. Paintings of the Mexican landscape, painted by the owner, decorate this Mexican eatery. Each chair in the restaurant is hand-carved and imported from Mexico. Everything here is tasty but El Metate is renowned for its ranchero steaks and enchiladas. Be sure to have some soup with your meal--both the caldo and menudo are good. Location: 319 W. Del Mar Boulevard.

Favorato's Restaurant. This upscale Italian restaurant has both a comprehensive wine list and a delicious menu. The pasta and meat dishes are unbeatable; try the veal Parmesan. A painting of the Leaning Tower of Pisa completes the experience. Location: 1916 San Bermardo Ave.
