Shopping in Laredo, Texas

While most visitors to Laredo plan their shopping in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, you will find some shopping on the Texas side of the border as well.

You might start your shopping in downtown Laredo, with its dozens of shops in the San Agustin and Mercado Historic Districts. This area has often been called America's largest urban outlet mall. Near the international bridge, wholesalers along Zaragoza Street entice shoppers with goods ranging from electronics to clothing and shoes to jewelry. Linger in perfume shops where you can purchase the world's famous fragrances at prices far lower than you might expect.

If you don't want to drive into Mexico, you'll find many large importers along San Bernardo Avenue. Look for wrought-iron furniture, clay products, and vases. A popular shop along this stretch is Vegas's Imports at 4002 San Bernardo Mexican home furnishings for every room of the house are sold in this well-stocked store and much of the furniture is hand-carved.

Laredo is also home to a mall: Mall del Norte located at 5300 San Dario. Whether you're in the market for clothing or cosmetics, luggage or luxury goods, you'll find them in the shops of this mall. Mall del Norte is also home to a host of restaurants.

A top shop, formerly in Mall del Norte but now at 101 Calle del Norte, is Polly Adams. This upscale dress shop offers exclusive lines of women's clothing and accessories and is favored by many Mexican movie stars. The 7000-square-foot store includes large fitting rooms with dressing robes, a living room so customers can take a break from their shopping to visit, and complimentary coffee, tea and wine.
