Marfa, Texas Travel Guide

Located on a desert plateau, the west Texas community was named for a character in The Brothers Karamazov and thrived as a railroad stop.

Today the community is often visited by those traveling to Big Bend and by vacationers seeking to spot the Marfa Lights, a phenomena that has been seen since pioneer days but never explained.

Attractions

Chinati Foundation. One of the largest permanent installations of contemporary art in the world, the Chinati Foundation displays works by its founded Donald Judd and others. It has a total of 32 buildings on 400 acres, with numerous outdoor sculptures by a variety of artists.

Marfa Lights A visitors center located eight miles east of Marfa on U.S. 67/90 displays information on the mysterious lights and provides a viewing center.
