Marshall, Texas Travel Guide
This East Texas town is best known for its pottery, produced by several
pottery companies in town. The town sometimes called the Pottery Capital
of the US. Here potters have been mining clay from east Texas's rolling hills for more than a century, now turning out more than a million pots each year. Marshall is especially popular during spring and fall months
for its brilliant blooms and colors. Attractions:
Harrison County Historical Museum. Local history exhibits including displays on the Caddo Indians are highlighted in this local history museum, which is located in a former courthouse. Along with the Caddoan artifacts, you'll find displays from the Civil War and pioneer days. Located in the Old Courthouse, Peter Whetstone Square.
Michelson Museum of Art. This collection features the work of the late Leo Michelson, a French Imporessionist whose works are well known in Europe. The museum also displays traveling exhibits. Located at 216 N. Bolivar (in the Southwestern Bell Bldg.) T.C. Lindsey and Co. This country store has been in business for more than 150 years. Along with antiques, the store features pottery, cookware, oil lamps, and boot scrapers. From Marshall, 2 miles west of Louisiana state line via I-20, 2 miles north on FM 134 in Jonesville. Special Events & Festivals Fireant Festival. Not just any town can pull off an annual event devoted to the dreaded fire ant. This October event includes games, live entertainment, food booths, and more.
