This McLennan County town of 5,000 residents is located 14 miles from Waco. The town, which was first called McGregor Springs, is named for Dr. Gregor McGregor and lies at the junction of two rail lines: St. Louis Narrow Gauge and Santa Fe Railroads. Even today, the rail plays a role in this town's economy thanks to its location on Amtrak's Texas Eagle line.

Attractions

McGinley Memorial Library. Historic theater buffs will enjoy a visit to the former Ritz Theater. The balcony of the old theater now houses movie memorabilia. Open Tuesday to Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Located at 317 Main St.

Festivals and Special Events

September: McGregor Founder's Day. A barbecue cookoff, 5 and 10-K runs, live music and children's activities fill the day at this popular event.
