This small community's name is a tribute to its lofty location on the northeast Texas hills. The town has access to several area lakes, making it popular with swimmers, anglers, and boaters. Mount Pleasant also draws many birders who come for the opportunity to spot bluebirds which are attraction to the area by its many birdhouses. The Chamber has information on birding tours. Attractions Lake Bob Sandlin State Park. You can camp, picnic, boat and fish at this state park which also includes screened shelters. Located 12 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant. Mount Pleasant Art Center and Gallery. These two galleries, housed in a former church, display oils, watercolors, pastels, and fine china. Located off FM 1402. Mount Pleasant Historical Museum. This local history museum contains exhibits on the early days of Mount Pleasant, from pioneer items to artifacts from the Caddo Indians, the first inhabitants of the region. Located at 213 North Madison. Festivals June: Mount Pleasant Championship Rodeo. This event includes rodeo performances, roping, barrel racing and precision riding. September: Titus County Fair. The Titus County Fairgrounds host art contests, a junion livestock show, live entertainment, and cookoffs for this popular event. October: Northeast Texas Travelers' Rod Run. More thn 100 pre-1949 autos are displays at this fall event which also includes games for the kids. Dining Hot Link Palace. This restaurant is known for, you guessed it, its popular hot links.
