Located just five miles from Port Arthur, the small community of Nederland dates back to 1897 when it was founded by Dutch immigrants. Now tucked between Port Arthur and Beaumont, the community maintains a small town spirit and is proud of its historic roots which include not only the Dutch settlers but the role as hometown of the late Tex Ritter.

Attractions

Nederland Windmill Museum. This exact replica of a Dutch windmill was erected in Ritter Park in Nederland. The site honors the town's many Dutch immigrants. The 40-foot structure houses a museum dedicated to Tex Ritter, the late country music star, who hailed from the area. Admission is free. Located at 1500 Boston Ave.

Acadienne Museum. This museum is located adjacent to the Windmill, also in Tex Ritter Park, and is a replica of Southern Louisiana French homes. Admission is free.

Festivals and Special Events

Spring. Nederland Heritage Festival. The Dutch roots of the community are remembered at this family-friendly festival which includes some distinctly Texas touches including a chili cook-off.

December. Nederland Lighted Christmas Parade. Scheduled for the second Tuesday in December, this event features over 100 lighted entries to celebrate the season.
