New Braunfels Restaurants

Huisache Grill. This restaurant draws a crowd from through the region who come to the restaurant known for its New American cuisine. Housed in a former train station built at the turn of the 20th centuiry, the location stars not just the historic setting but a stellar menu as well including seafood, steak, pasta, and salads. Live music and jazz keep things lively on the weekends. Open-air dining is available in the courtyard-style covered pation; there's also a kid's menu. Located at 303 W. San Antonio St.

Langston House. You wouldn't expect to find fine Continental dining in a small town, but that's what makes this restaurant so special. Owner Bill Knight is a former theater professional and has decorated the interior of the 1854 home with billboards and theater memorabilia. He also entertains diners with show tunes at the grand piano. The menu changes frequently. Located at 190 S. Seguin Ave.

Oma's Haus. This restaurant serves a wide selection of German dishes in a family atmosphere. The menu includes chicken and pork schnitzel (our favorite), and a specialty of the house called Oma's Pride, a spinach-filled pastry shell. For the less adventurous, chicken-fried steak and chicken breast also are offered. Take Seguin exit 1890 off I-35 and drive east to 541 TX 46 S.

Naegelin's Bakery. Naegelin's has operated on the same spot since 1868. The original building is gone now, replaced by the current structure in 1942. The store's specialty is apple strudel, a two-foot long creation that is certain to make any pastry lover's mouth water. During the holidays, some of Naegelin's best sellers are springerle, a licorice cookie, and lebkucken, a frosted gingerbread cookie. Located at 129 S. Seguin Ave.

New Braunfels Smokehouse. If you get the chance to attend Wurstfest, you'll undoubtedly sample the product of this smokehouse. That sausage is the specialty of the house, but the restaurant has a little of everything, including smoked ham and barbecue brisket. A large gift shop up front offers Texas specialty foods and cookbooks. The company's mail order business ships catalogs to sausage lovers around the country. Located at TX 46 and US 81.
