McDonald Observatory of the University of Texas

Back: Situated on Mount Locke at an elevation of 6,825 feet, it contains the second largest Telescope in the world, weighing 75 tons. The diameter of the mirror is 82 inches, weight 2 1/2 tons. Diameter of Dome is 62 feet, weight 125 tons, while the height of the building is 73 feet to top of dome. It is the pride of SW Texas. A fine road from Fort Davis leads to the top.
