June Festivals in San Antonio
Known for: summer song and dance shows Event: You know it's summer when Fiesta Noche
Del Rio begins. This show, held at the Arneson River Theatre, celebrates
the many cultures of San Antonio through song and dance every Tuesday,
Friday, and Saturday night through August. The event includes eight
acts showcasing the music of Spain, Argentina, romantic Latin music,
Mexico, Texas, Admission: yes Location: Arneson River Theatre Texas Folklife Festival Known for: celebration of the many cultures
that settled Texas Events: This festival recognizes the contributions
of the many cultures that settled Texas. The festival accomplishes
that goal with song, folk dance, game demonstrations, crafts exhibits
and demonstrations, and lots of ethnic food. Eleven stages throughout
the grounds showcase ethnic song and dance ranging from flamenco
dancers to Celtic tunes to hula. Location: Institute of Texan Cultures, 801
S. Bowie, HemisFair Plaza Latino Laugh Festival Known for: comedy shows Events: Cosponsored by the Rivercenter Comedy
Club and SíTV, the event was developed as a way to showcase
new comedy talent in the Latino community. The four-day event includes
a variety of English language comedy acts including stand-up, sketch
comedy, celebrity roasts, and one man/woman shows. Comedians vary
by year but previous performers have included Tommy Chong, Cheech
Marin, Daisy Fuentes, Edward James Olmos, Maria Conchita Alonso,
Jimmy Smits, Hector Elizondo, Erik Estrada, Mario Lopez, Ada Maris,
