March Festivals in San Antonio


Remembering the Alamo Weekend

Known for: commemoration of anniversary of the fall of the Alamo.

Events: Sponsored by the San Antonio Living History Association, this two-day event scheduled the Saturday and Sunday nearest March 6, the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo. The event includes education programs and demonstrations about life during the period. Costumed actors help visitors learn more about music of the time as well as food preparation, spinning, weaving, herbal medicine and early medical practices, and warfare. During the programs, visitors learn more about the men, women, and children who lived on both sides of the famous conflict between the Texians and the Mexicans. The event also includes exhibition of Alamo archaeological displays.

Dawn at the Alamo
This March 6 event features re-enactors portraying the armies of the Texian defenders and the Mexican soldiers led by General Santa Anna on the anniversary of the fall of the Alamo.

Alamo Irish Festival

Known for: three-day St. Patrick’s Day festival; street parade

Events: Grab your green and head to the river. Scheduled for the weekend closest to March 17th, this event celebrates St. Patrick's Day with music, food, arts and crafts, cultural displays, and dancing. more The event is sponsored by the Harp and Shamrock Society of Texas. The St. Patrick's Day Street Parade is one of the largest in the Southwest and now in its fourth decade.

Guinness Dyeing O' the River Green & St. Patrick's Day Parade
Yes, the San Antonio River runs green for this special event thanks to 35 pounds of eco-friendly dye. The river is dyed twice and there's also a St. Patrick's Day parade on river barges.
