Oblate Grotto of the Southwest

This grotto is an exact replica of the grotto in Lourdes, France. Constructed in 1941 by the missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the grotto is carved from stone and represents the cave in which Mary appeared to St. Bernadette, who is seen kneeling in prayer in the grotto. In the grotto burn many candles; the site is also filled with hundreds of milagros or charms.

The limestone grotto is located in a five-acre park. Here a path leads to outdoor Stations of the Cross. Daily mass is offered by the Oblate Fathers in the Eucharistic Chapel; the Chapel also has a daily Blessed Sacrament.

Throughout the year, the grotto is the site of many special novenas and special masses.

Hours: The grounds of the grotto are open 24 hours daily. The chapel is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Daily mass is offered in English on Monday through Saturday at 7:15 a.m. and in Spanish at noon Monday through Friday. Sunday mass is at 9:00 a.m. in English and at 11:30 a.m. in Spanish.

Location: 5722 Blanco Road, San Antonio
