Plaza San Antonio

A short walk from the River Walk or the Convention Center, the Plaza San Antonio is a luxury base for both leisure and business travelers.

This Marriott property prides itself on offering guests unexpected amenities such as overnight professional shoeshine and local chauffeured cars to San Antonio’s business district and a full business center. In-room coffee and a free newspaper are also there for guests' enjoyment. The hotel has lighted tennis courts, a health club and an outdoor heated pool. The concierge can attend to all your needs and inquiries about the property or the city.

The hotel’s Anaqua Room is known for its fine dining. The Chef’s Mediterranean and American-styled dishes entice guests while they take in the breathtaking view of the Plaza’s gardens. The Palm Terrace Lobby Bar is the perfect place to relax after a long day, or lounge for a pleasant conversation with friends.

Historic Buildings: A unique feature of this elegant resort is the annexation of historic buildings that add style and atmosphere. Four 19th-century buildings, each listed on the National Register of Historic Places, are located directly behind the hotel. The Diaz House, now used for meetings and receptions, was built around 1840. Some have pointed out the similarity of the stonework in the Diaz House and that in the outer wall of the Alamo. The health club is housed in an 1850s structure that typifies the German style so popular in San Antonio during that period. Yet another house, now a private dining room, was saved as an example of a Victorian cottage.

But the best known of the hotel's historic structures is the German-English School. Located next to the tennis courts, this two-story building was originally built to teach the children of the German businessmen who lived in the affluent King William neighborhood. Now the hotel conference center, the school came to national attention in 1992 when President George Bush, Mexican President Salinas, and Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney met here for the initializing ceremony of the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Location: 555 S. Alamo
