San Antonio Shopping

From Mexican imports to fine art, designer clothes to cowboy duds, San Antonio is a fun destination for shoppers. You’ll find excellent shopping along the River Walk, in El Mercado (excellent for imports), and at malls scattered throughout town.

San Antonio’s shopping days date back to its founding as a Spanish outpost. Along with the missionaries, soldiers, and colonists came the traders and merchants, determined to sell their products for the best price. During the Civil War, San Antonio became a center of commerce with Mexico, a distinction it still enjoys.

Outlet shoppers generally head north on I-35 to Texas’s top shopping location, the outlet malls of San Marcos.
