Witte Museum, San Antonio A popular family attraction, the Witte
showcases Texas history, wildlife and natural history, and culture. Exhibits
in the main building range from Texas' earliest residents 4000 years ago
to turtles found in Texas waters. Upstairs, the explanation of Egyptian
mummification draws many visitors. Behind the museum, five historic homes from the region are on display in the courtyard. The newest addition to the complex is the H.E.B. Science Treehouse, a four-story collection of interactive exhibits on science concepts. The Treehouse is aptly named; the building is connected by elevated walkways to a two-level treehouse perched on concrete oak trees created by San Antonio sculptor Carlos Cortes. Location: 3801 Broadway
