Mansion on Main, Texarkana Tom and Peggy Taylor, who own Jefferson's McKay House, chose a good spot to open their second B&B: Texarkana received lots of attention as the hometown of Ross Perot. Down the street from the mansion, in fact, is the Perot
Theatre, a performing arts center renovated with the billionaire's help. The wood-frame, neoclassical Mansion on Main was built for the widow of a Confederate veteran in 1895; the structure's most striking external features--14 two-story cypress columns--were added later. The residence has been well preserved, retaining its original oak, walnut, and mahogany parquet floors, and a glamorous winding staircase. The Taylors added four bathrooms. This inn follows the McKay House's strategy of blending
elegance and fun, down to many of the same distinctive details such as
the period hats, gowns, and nightshirts distributed to guests. All densely
adorned with antiques, the guest rooms vary from the modest Butler's Garret
to the elegant, two-chambered Governor's Suite. Location: 802 Main St. For More Information: visit www.mansiononmain.com Return to Texarkana Travel Guide |
