Above: Texas Travel Information Center, Laredo The official site of Texas tourism, www.TravelTex.com, is an excellent resource of all sorts of Texas travel information. A good starting point is with the free Texas State Travel Guide, a full-color guide to over 400 cities. You can order the guide (as well as a free highway map and Texas accommodations guide, online. The same office also offers live, online help; call 1-800-8888-TEX to talk with a representative about travel assistance throughout the state. Texas Travel Information Centers The Texas Department of Transportation operates Texas Travel Infromation Centers at entry points into the state; you'll find them in in Amarillo, Anthony, Denison, Gainesville, Harlingen, Langtry, Laredo, Orange, Texarkana, Waskom, Wichita Falls, and in Austin at the State Capitol Visitors Center. From 8 am to 6pm, you can also call 1-800-452-9292 for travel assistance information. Road Conditions The TXDoT office also operates a road condition hotline; call 1-800-452-9292 or check the TXDoT website for information on road closures and detours.
