Brownsville for Groups

Hotels in Brownsville

From South Padre Island, it’s a short drive to Brownsville, Texas’s southernmost city. This border community lies across the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico and serves as a popular destination for groups, both those interested in international trade and those looking for freetime fun.

In north Brownsville, the city is home to the Brownsville Events Center. The Spanish-style facility offers 31,000 square feet of both flexible and fixed interior space. Designed for small to medium-sized groups of 200-300 delegates, the facility is capable of accommodating up to1200 people theater style or 900 participants banquet style.

The city is also home to the Jacob Brown Civic Center, adjacent to the University of Texas/Southmost College and just minutes from the International Border. The facility includes a 1,000-seat auditorium with a 2,800-square-foot staging area. The center is adjacent to the new tennis center, with 15 courts.

Other meeting facilities in the city include the 142-room Four Points Sheraton (956.547.1500) which includes a 5800-square-foot divisible ballroom and the 168-room Holiday Inn Fort Brown (956.546.2201) with over 5,000 square feet of meeting space.

Groups with an interest in golf also can opt for Ranch Viejo Resort and Country Club (956.350.4000) which offers both villas and hotel rooms; the resort includes a hall for up to 1,200 participants in a reception setting or 600 banquet style. The resort boasts two 18-hole golf courses, part of the seven courses found in Brownsville.

Brownsville offers several local attractions including the Gladys Porter Zoo, the Brownsville Museum of Fine Arts, and the Historic Brownsville Museum with exhibits on local history. The region is also known for its excellent birding. Local sites include Camp Lula Sams, the Boca Chica wetlands, and the Sabal Palm Audubon Sanctuary. Many sites are part of the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail and local guides are available for group tours.

Groups can easily make the trip across the international border into Brownsville’s sister city: Matamoros. The city is home to numerous dining options as well as markets.
