McAllen for Groups A popular Rio Grande Valley destination is
McAllen, known as the home of numerous Winter Texans. Located west of
Harlingen, McAllen offers attractions of its own as well as easy access
into Reynosa, Mexico, eight miles away. McAllen is well known for its birding and ecotourism activities. About 16 miles southeast of the city, the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge challenges birders with many rare species. Interpretive tram rides are available during winter months. Other attractions include the International Museum of Art and Science, filled with Mexican crafts as well as local geology and the Shary Estate, the former home of the Father of Valley Citrus, which is now owned by the University of Texas at Pan American. McAllen is also known as the Square
Dance Capital of the World, which offers nightly dances during the
winter months. Groups can hire nationally known callers for
a fast-paced evening activity or for group instruction. Groups also find 35,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space at the McAllen Civic Center. Meeting and function space is also available at properties like the 252-room Embassy Suites with 4160 square feet for group use. Return to McAllen
