Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, South Padre Island

Hotels on South Padre Island

Texas residents and frequent visitors know that New Braunfels's Schlitterbahn is synonymous with fun in the water and South Padre also offer genuine Schlitterbahn excitement. The Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark on South Padre Island, a $13 million water park, tempts travelers with plenty of family fun but with a different theme.

You'll find the allure of a Brazilian beach at this park, located right on the beach. Hundreds of palm trees shade this 26-acre park filled with rides that range from a five-story Sandcastle with animated characters to a bodyboarding ride. The park features the first transportation system of its kind: Transportainment river system which transports visitors on water for almost a mile. The park is located on the southern end of the island, just across the causeway from Port Isabel.

One of Schlitterbahn’s most unique activities is open year around and visitors don’t need waterpark admission to take part. At SeaTrek, thanks to high-tech dive helmets visitors get the chance to actually walk inside an 80,000-gallon tank filled with seawater and inhabited by rays and other Gulf marine life. No dive experience is necessary and family members age eight and above can participate. We have participated in SeaTrek in the Caribbean (although not here) and found it a fun way to feel like marine life yourself for a short while.

The actual waterpark at Schlitterbahn is only open seasonally although next door at Schlitterbahn’s Shrimp Haus Restaurant & Club the fun continues year around. Not only does the popular restaurant serve shrimp 101 different ways but you’ll often find live entertainment here as well.
