Attractions

Valley Nature Center. This five-acre park includes walking trails, a cacti garden, and butterfly gardens; look for species such as Great Kiskadees and Buff-Bellied Hummingbirds here. Located at 301 S. Border Ave.

Frontera Audubon. This 12-acre park is excellent for spotting parrots, ducks and butterflies as well as rare species such as the Violet-crowned Hummingbird and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. Located at 1101 S. Texas Blvd.

Estero Llano Grande State Park.This 176-acre park is part of the World Birding Center network. Located on FM 1015.

Festivals & Special Events

APRIL: Weslaco Onion Fest. This annual, one-day ode to the 1015 sweet onion makes for a sweet treat for the 26,935 residents of this Hidalgo County town.
