Dr Pepper Museum and Free
Enterprise Institute The famous Dr Pepper soft drink was invented in 1885 by pharmacist Dr. Charles Alderton at Waco's Old Corner Drug Store, once located at 4th St. and Austin Avenue. Today the drug store is gone but the original bottling plant remains open as a museum and popular school group stop. Exhibits and films offer a look at some early promotional materials as well as the manufacturing process. On the third floor, the Free Enterprise Institute shows a film on the economic system and classrooms are available for school groups to utilize in their exploration of free enterprise. After a look through the museum, most travelers make their last stop at the recreation of the Old Corner Drug Store fountain for an ice cream soda or (what else?) a Dr Pepper. Video Resources
